I had a fantastic time delivering the ‘Professionalism dealing with Informants’ course in Al Ain, and can’t wait to go back.
The Etihad Airways flight from London was the best one I have ever been on (the return was excellent too). Although arriving at 0100hrs local time, & finally getting to bed in the ‘City Seasons’ Hotel (Al Ain) around 0330hrs, when I got up around 0930hrs that morning I wasn’t suffering from any jet-lag whatsoever (that was a first for me !). The training regime is different to what I have been used to in the UK. Classes started around 0830-0900hrs every day, and were finished around 1300-1315hrs. We had 2 breaks during this time of around 30-40minutes each, which in reality meant that contact time with the students amounted to around 3 hours per day.
My interpreter during the course was fantastic, really supportive and advised me accordingly re: customs and practice etc. in the UAE. The facilities at the ‘Ayla’ hotel in Al Ain where the training was being delivered were absolutely first rate, including IT support, wi-fi access, housekeeping etc. At the end of the course I was driven back to Abu Dhabi and spent my final night at the ‘Crystal’ Hotel, which again was absolutely first class.
